Take Megalodon’s tooth from West Java in Indonesia. About 20 million years ago, the areas which are now dry land were surrounded by warm marine environments. Megalodon sharks inhabited those prehistoric waters, along with a myriad of other types of marine life.

Megalodon as modern sharks present, continuously produces teeth and then loses them. Some of them eventually settled in marine sediments. When the conditions were right burial could protect them for long enough for fossilization to occur.
